When
Tamiya were originally building radio controlled cars in the late
seventies and early eighties, the idea was to replicate real vehicles
and their architecture. The Super Champ was
an evolution of the Rough Rider and Sand Scorcher
and had a single shock for the rear suspension. These special
racing buggies (SRB) copied the front
suspension and steering geometry from
a Volkswagen Beetle which explains why it corners like Adolf Hitler
at while entering Poland (ie straight ahead).
These
cars were certainly
no match in performance to todays brushless motored LIPO buggies on
steroids but they do have a class of
their own. I think apart from the Kyosho Optima mid custom and Rocky,
there has been no better looking RC car
than the Super Champ and Rough Rider. Rough Rider is a very close
replica to an original Mint 400 dune
buggy which raced around the dunes of
Las Vegas before all the fat americans bloated the place beyond all
recognition.
